Dachshund in the Flowers

A Dachshund in the Flowers is part of a collection I like to call 'The 3 Mischiefs' - a fox, a cat and this beautiful and soulful little dachshund.

I'm fascinated by their unique characters and intelligence, as lots of people are, and had always wanted to paint one. I hope you enjoy her!

Robin in Space

Robins are my favourite birds and I have painted so many, but on this occasion I thought to experiment by painting the bird in an outline, almost monochrome effect and utilise the background space nebula for the colour. The effect seems somewhat psychedelic, which was not the intention, but I rather like it and hope you do too!

Black Robin 'Old Blue' Nebula

In the 1980's in New Zealand there were only 5 Black Robins remaining.  Thanks to amazing conservation efforts there are now over 200 at least.  A 13 year old Black Robin called 'Old Blue' was largely responsible for repopulating the species.

'Old Blue' presented here is an A4 (29.7cm x 21cm) Giclee print on archival 300gsm paper using the finest archival quality inks.  The image was painted using traditional soft pastels, photographed and edited using modern mixed-media production methods.

Seven Remaining Feathers

This painting was developed after finding these seven feathers in various places: three goldfinch, two blue jay and two bluebird (I like to think of them as bluebird feathers but in truth I don't know what they are).  The latter two were found in Birdcage walk, Clifton, Bristol.  The remaining elements are a cosmic nebula soft pastel background and 'fluffs' more usually known as Dandelion clocks.  The number seven is special to me and I hope to you too!

Crow Nebula

This soft pastel painting was created intuitively but was perhaps inspired by the great poet Ted Hughes whose masterpiece poetry collection 'Crow', the tales of a mythical trickster crow was and still is one of my favourite books.  Here is Crow, in space 'flying the black flag of himself' as Ted wrote.
