This Blackbird Nebula painting is a special piece since it marked the beginning of a new style of my paintings in soft pastels. It was painted very freely and was inspired from a resident Blackbird who would regularly be singing on the rooftops near me at around 2am! I loved to hear him then, when it was dark and the streets were quiet and felt it as a clarion call to push on with my artwork.
I loved painting this one, especially the rapid long finger strokes that became his tail feathers. At that time I had no thoughts of creating bird 'nebula' pieces but so it was and there have been many since. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do :)))
The Blackbird Nebula is an A4 (29.7cm x 21cm) giclee print (which means high quality and long lasting) on 300gsm textured fine art paper using the finest archival quality inks. The image was created using traditional soft pastel painting on acid free black paper. It was then photographed and edited for print production using digital software.
